If you don’t want Copilot to see sensitive documents, protect the documents with a sensitivity label that blocks access to Microsoft content services. https://practical365.com/block-access-to-content-services/

Maybe a stupid question. Does this summary feature also create summaries of local files or files stored for instance in on-premises file shares etc.? Does the file need to exist in M365 environment for this feature to work?

It is really a shame if there is no Group Policies or other good ways to control this feature.
